Houston / Permit directory methodology

Where these permit records come from

We organize Houston’s published weekly sold-permit reports by street address. Every displayed record links to the city report from which it was read.

Available report dates: Jan 5, 2026–Sep 13, 2026. Sources checked Sep 30, 2026.

What the pilot covers

The pilot contains 300 addresses, selected from the most recent qualifying house and duplex descriptions in 36 weekly city reports. At launch, the city descriptions matched single-family residence or duplex work; pool, solar, repair, remodeling and other ancillary descriptions did not qualify an address.

After selecting an address, we include all matching records we found in the imported reports, including demolition or other work. Addresses remain in the pilot as later reports arrive. We preserve unit and suite text and do not combine neighboring addresses or infer parcels.

The source is the City of Houston, not a comprehensive Harris County or Houston metropolitan-area feed. The pilot is a selection, not a market-wide construction count. An absent address is not evidence that no permit exists.

What the fields mean

Grouping and updates

We group exact addresses and ZIP codes after standardizing case and whitespace. Duplicate rows with the same address, date, project number, type and description appear once, with all their source references retained.

The importer checks weekly, archives source files and saves dated snapshots before replacing public data. Failed downloads or unexpected report formats stop an update and leave the previous snapshot available. The source-check date tells you when we last imported successfully; it is not the date the city approved a project.

Limits and corrections

The reports supply six fields: ZIP code, permit date, permit type, project number, address and comments. They do not supply owner or contractor details, inspection results, current project status or asking prices. This directory contains public records, not MLS listings.

Start with the city’s official permit search and weekly reports to verify a record. City corrections may appear in a later refresh. Formatting and address errors in the source can also prevent an exact match here.
